Gift of Douglas Clark (Estate), Toronto, 2016

Douglas Clark was a photographer who loved colour and spatial illusion in his work, which was often driven by sensation, humour, and curiosity. While some of his later work in the 1990s, following residencies in Paris and Hamburg, became more austere and monochromatic, this picture fully embraces his earlier methods. C-Level Cirque, now a popular hiking trail on Cascade Mountain, started out as part of the coal mine operated at Bankhead.
