About the Artist

Fern established Greenoli Glass Studio in February 1995 in Stony Plain, Alberta and accepted commissions for stained glass panels, mosaics, fused tableware and jewellery. An exhibition of her glass jewellery in South America with Objetos Con Vidrio (Art Glass Objects) in August 2009 widened her viewership. She moved her studio in May, 2011 to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia where she continues to create stained glass panels as well as glass tiles, and mosaic tabletops. Woven wraps, blankets, hand painted silk and wool yarns are another of her interests. Fern organizes classes and workshops in glass and textiles. Fern currently lives in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia working out of her Greenoli Art Glass and Textile studio.

Comments on the Work

Fern Jordan's contribution to the canoe collection is a wonderful vibrant stained glass construction "Stained Glass Canoe, 2000." The piece shows a suspended canoe over which two crossed two paddles hang. The background is pale blue and the surrounding border is a deep blue with alternating squares and triangles of intense red. All the sections are held together with lead in a traditional manner. Fern had worked with different mediums such as painting, weaving, embroidery but when she discovered glass she was captivated by it She commented "vivid and vibrant, with its myriad of colours and textures glass is a wonderful medium for exploration and the best medium for rediscovering the effects of light"
